Areas of Islamic Faith

Islam started in the deserts of Arabia, but soon spread into large areas of north and east Africa and eastwards into India, China and south-east Asia. Later the Turks brought Islam to south-eastern Europe. Islam's holy cities include Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. Throughout history pilgrims have traced the journey of Mohammed from Mecca to the city of Medina.
