When did Bosnia and Herzegovina gain independence?
Bosnia and Herzegovina were united under Turkish rule in the 15th century. The republic declared independence from former Yugoslavia in 1991. Civil war followed between the Bosnian Muslims and the Serbian and Croatian Christians living in Bosnia.
