What is a smart card?
Smart cards could do away with the need for people to carry money with them.
Smart cards could do away with the need for people to carry money with them.
A smart card is used by telephone companies, banks, and other organisations involved in money transactions. It consists of a piece of plastic similar in size to a credit card. Embedded in it is a tiny computer microprocessor and a memory. A telephone smart card, for example, records the number of units the user has bought in its memory. Each time the card is used, units are deducted from the memory.
