Who invented the motorcar engine?
The earliest motorised road vehicles, made in the 1800s, had steam engines. By the 1880s, the German engineers Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler had fitted petrol engines to cars and motorcycles. In 1892, Rudolf Diesel invented the diesel engine.
