How are submersibles controlled?
Manned submersibles are controlled by their crew. Unmanned craft, controlled from a surface vessel, are used to investigate wrecks and pipelines. They are lowered on cables, and are equipped with sound-detection equipment, lights, and television cameras for recording the sea bed. Some are fitted with mechanical robot arms that can pick up objects.
Submersibles are used to examine shipwrecks and faulty underwater pipelines and cables.
