How were the pyramids built?
Between 2630 BC and 1640 BC, Egyptian kings were buried in tombs inside huge pyramids. Stonemasons quarried, shaped, and smoothed blocks of stone. The blocks were then lashed to sleds. These were dragged over wooden rollers, which were kept damp to prevent friction. Mudbrick ramps were used to bring the stones up to where they were needed.
