What did Jerusalem look like in Old Testament times?
Jerusalem was founded sometime before 2000 BC. King David made it the Israelite capital in about 1000 BC. Jerusalem was surrounded by strong walls and contained fine palaces, but it remained comparatively small with narrow alleyways and poor housing. King David's son, Solomon, later built a temple and palace in the city.
