What is a salamander?
Salamanders such as the tiger salamander are related to newts, and both are amphibians. Salamanders are perfectly at home on land but have to live in damp places. This is because their skins lose water easily. Some species can breed on land, but many return to water to spawn. Salamanders eat small creatures such as worms and slugs.
