The biggest of the scent hounds is the bloodhound. It has an extremely good sense of smell, more than a million times better than a human's, and is used to track criminals. Hounds are often bred with particular characteristics to help them hunt their prey. Otterhounds, for example, are excellent swimmers, and beagles are bred for stamina, enabling them to run long distances.
