Where do canaries come from?
In the wild, canaries are found on the Canary Islands off North Africa and on the islands of the Azores and Madeira. They have been kept for more than 400 years because they can sing. Most captive birds are bright yellow, but breeding in captivity has produced a wide range of different colours. Their wild relatives are a duller olive-green colour.
