Why do we have seasons?
The Earth takes one year to move around the Sun. But the Earth is tilted on its axis. This means that different parts of the Earth receive different amounts of sunlight, and so become warmer or colder as the Earth travels on its journey. When the North Pole is nearest the Sun, the northern part of the Earth is warmest. Here it is summer. At the same time, the southern part is tilted away from the Sun, and is cooler. Here it is winter.
