What is inside an atom?
An atom is made up of three kinds of tiny particles. Protons have a positive electric charge, and neutrons have no charge at all. Protons and neutrons cluster together at the centre of the atom, making up the nucleus. Around them travel electrons, which have a negative electric charge. An atom contains equal numbers of electrons and protons.
