How long did it take to build the Great Pyramid?
The Great Pyramid was built as a tomb for King Khufu, also called Cheops. It is at Giza, in Egypt. Work began in about 2575 BC. It took thousands of people about 25 years to assemble it from 2.3 million blocks of stone. It weighs over 6 million tonnes and is today 138 metres high. The Great Pyramid was the tallest building in the world for 4,000 years.
