How big is an oil tanker?
Oil tankers carry crude oil and oil products. Supertankers can carry hundreds of thousands of tons of oil. The largest supertanker was over 458 metres long and 69 metres wide. When it was fully loaded with petroleum, 24 metres of its hull were under water. Supertankers are difficult to steer, and so heavy that they can take up to five kilometres to stop completely.
