What is a 'supersonic' airliner?
Supersonic means faster than the speed of sound. The speed of sound is measured as 1,200 kph at sea level. Concorde is the only airliner capable of flying at supersonic speed. It can reach 2,100 kph. Other commercial aircraft are not designed to fly at supersonic speed; the shock waves and buffeting that would occur as they approached this speed would destroy the aircraft.
